The gourmet guide to Moroccan pastries

If you are familiar with Morocco and Marrakech, you know how rich the country is in culture, activities and gastronomy. If you have not yet had the opportunity to stay in the country, you are lucky to discover all this for the first time, even if you never get tired of Marrakech! Villanovo has designed for you the ultimate guide for all the gourmands and curious to discover the famous oriental pastries that will delight you every time!

The Makroud

Like many Moroccan cakes, Makroud is made of honey, date and semolina. In this small diamond-shaped cake, the date is in the middle and its sweet taste explodes in the mouth blends perfectly with the honey that is spread on the surface of the cake. You can enjoy a Makroud (or several) at breakfast with tea or coffee or after a good meal with mint tea.

La Corne de Gazelle

Known not only in Africa, the gazelle horn is also very famous in France. This delicious pastry is made from crushed almonds and orange blossom so enjoy this sweet treat at any time of the day from morning to night. Sometimes covered with icing sugar, you will have the choice between two versions! Feel free to order some after a good meal in the restaurant with a mint tea.

The Chebakia

This pastry, very famous in Morocco, is fried in oil and then covered with honey and sesame seeds. Chebakia is one of the cheapest and most famous cakes in Morocco, easily available, everywhere, be careful not to eat too much if you want to taste the sweetness of a tray of various pastries at the end of a meal!

The Brioutes

You will taste different flavours: with almonds or peanuts, Briouates are also made with almonds crushed with honey, then fries. The triangle-shaped cake is the gourmet moment of your day, so between two visits to museums or before heading down the dunes of Morocco, treat yourself to a little candy!

The Baghir

Called the "crepe with 1000 holes", this Moroccan pastry in the shape of a crepe can be enjoyed with a drizzle of honey or other accompaniment that you wish for breakfast or a snack for your children! If you rent a villa with a chef in Marrakech, ask your chef to let you taste this delicious pastry!
