Gueliz, the modern district of Marrakech

The Guéliz district is THE modern district of Marrakech, where you can go shopping, dine or discover the many concept stores of the district.

Built during the establishment of the French protectorate in 1912 by Marshal Lyautey, Guéliz is the first district of Marrakech built outside the Medina. Located to the west of the ramparts, a few minutes by car from the Palmeraie, it was designed by the architect Henri Prost, who also drew up the development plans for Casablanca, Fez, Rabat, etc.

During your stay, discover this Europeanized district which has preserved a touch of Moroccan authenticity!

The ideal place to go shopping

The ideal place to go shopping

A very contemporary district, many European brands have settled here: you will find restaurants "à l'Occidentale", such as pizzerias, fast food restaurants (McDonald's, KFC...), clothing stores (Zara, H&M, Aldo...), or even cosmetics brands (The Body Shop...). The main artery of the district is Hassan II Avenue but you can make beautiful discoveries in the adjacent streets. Visit the Carré Eden shopping centre to find even more shopping addresses.

The district is also populated by many hotels due to its proximity to the airport, about 15-20 minutes by car.

A residential area

The district is inhabited by a population from the middle or middle class. There are far fewer tourists and more Westerners living abroad, making it the most expensive district in the city per m2.

Unlike the Medina, alcohol is for sale there and prices are displayed - and are therefore fixed - everywhere.

The area was renovated to host COP22 in 2016.

Here is a list of the must-see activities in the Guéliz district.

Walk in the Arsat Moulay Abdeslam garden - this cyber garden is so unique. It is equipped with high-speed terminals and an ultra-fast wifi connection. For the most curious, the Telecommunications Museum retraces the history of telecommunications in the territory.
Go to the Comptoir des Mines gallery: an exhibitor of contemporary Moroccan art, this gallery houses various types of exhibitions in an Art Deco building dating back to the 1930s.

Visit the Majorelle Garden and the Yves Saint Laurent Museum: to find out everything about the links between Yves Saint Laurent and Marrakech, these two places, emblematic of the couturier's life, will transport you to Marrakech in the 1970s and 1980s. Meanwhile, shop at 33 rue Majorelle the original concept store, which combines typical Moroccan products (pottery, slippers) and an exhibition for the perfect place to shop in the city!

Relax in one of our villas in the district: between modernity and typical architecture, just like the district, these houses are the ideal place to recharge your batteries...
