One of the most influential multimedia artists in the world, André Heller is known for his songs, texts, sculptures and for his leadership of the Roncalli circus and splendid shows. An enthusiast of flora, he bought the botanical garden on Lake Garda in Italy, where hundreds of plant species from five continents are gathered.
After falling under the spell of Morocco, he settled there in 2006 and undertook the project of another botanical garden in Marrakech. After 8 years of work, the Austrian finally created what is considered one of the most beautiful and imaginative gardens in the world. Indeed, after spending his childhood in the former great imperial park of Schonbrunn in Austria, and more specifically in his famous greenhouse filled with plants from all over the world, he developed a passion for paradisiacal flora. So in 2008, with his co-creator Gregor Weiss, he launched the design and construction of the Anima garden (literally "soul" in Greek), which was originally an 8-hectare wasteland on the road to the Ourika. With the desire to create a heavenly garden, he developed a lush space with 1001 plants: bougainvilleas, banana trees, palm trees and varieties of cactus, in harmony with amazing sculptures. This perfect blend of nature and art, in reference to great artists and regions of the world, is reflected in colourful African statues and works by Massai warriors for a true journey between the contemporary and the ancient, Africa and Asia.
A paradise of greenery at the gates of Marrakech
With a scenery that calls for discovery and travel, it has created a place conducive to escape and appeasement in which curious travellers and locals take refuge during the hot summer days and enjoy a pleasant freshness.
A real consecration of a dream, this "return to paradise" is also a place of culture in which exhibitions are exhibited and conferences are held. And, in Café Paul Bowles, you will have the opportunity to take a little break.

The Anima garden is open every day from May 1st to September 30th from 9am to 6pm and from October 1st to April 30th from 9am to 5pm.
