Riad Zina

In summary

Riad Zina is a very old residence, of refined Andalusian architectural style, located in the very popular Riad Laarouss district. It was restored under the guidance of architect Quentin Wilbaux, an expert in the exceptional renovation of riads in the medina of Marrakech, in the late 1980s. In 2018 and 2019, it was redesigned by the current owners. This venue is furnished in the spirit of a family home with furniture and objects associated with design references. In addition to the 100sqm patio which has several seating areas and an outdoor dining area, the riad also has a terrace with a sunbathing area and outdoor shower, as well as a small protected outdoor lounge. This riad, which can accommodate up to 8 people, is perfect for adults and teenagers. It is a perfect place for a great stay in Marrakech.


Bedrooms

Room 1
Room, Ground level. This bedroom has 1 double bed 180 cm. Bathroom private, with bathtub. This bedroom includes also dressing room.

Room 2
Room, 1st floor. This bedroom has 1 double bed 160 cm. Bathroom private, with shower. This bedroom includes also air conditioning, office area, private terrace.

Room 3
Room, 1st floor. This bedroom has 1 double bed 160 cm. Bathroom private, with shower. This bedroom includes also air conditioning, dressing room, private terrace.

Room 4
Room, 1st floor. This bedroom has 2 twin beds configurable as a double bed. Bathroom private, with shower. This bedroom includes also air conditioning, dressing room, private terrace.

Each bedroom has its own bathroom and sanitary facilities with direct access (one on the ground floor patio, two on the first floor and one on the second floor on the terrace). 


Indoors 

The riad has two lounges, one on the ground floor and the other on the first floor in the Douiria suite where an alcove has been converted into an office. The whole house is equipped with wifi and fibre connection. 

Ground floor:
Away from the living areas, the night watchman's room is located in the entrance hall which leads to the stairwell and opens onto a 100 sqm patio bordered by 3 galleries. These galleries offer a small seating area, an access to the ground floor lounge (also winter dining room - capacity of 8 people) with its fireplace and its extra lounge.
The second gallery comprises the outside dining room (capacity 10 to 12 people). It is adjacent to the fully equipped kitchen.
Finally, under the third gallery, there is a vast bench for resting, with low tables and various seats, opening onto a real green setting.
The ground floor bedroom (opposite the small lounge) is accessed directly from the patio.

First floor:
The master suite (second bedroom) is accessed through a vestibule. It also leads to the gallery which gives access to the third bedroom. The suite consists of a Douiria lounge with a working fireplace, seating and a coffee table, extended by a study alcove. The Douiria lounge is equipped with a speaker that connects via bluetooth to listen to music. Traditional Douirias are becoming increasingly rare. They were the central place in the flats of the master of the house to receive visitors from outside the family. This flat generally had an independent entrance from the riad to avoid that the visitors (men) meet and see the women present in the riad and this in the respect of the Islamic tradition. The decoration of the Douiria must be neat and artistic to give a good image of the owner to the visitors. This original painted wooden ceiling decoration has been preserved in Riad Zina. It surrounds a large glazed oculus which makes this Douiria lounge a very bright room. The two large double wooden doors have also been preserved and lead on either side to the office alcove and the room with its traditional windows and shutters. It has a private gallery.
The third bedroom is accessed via the open gallery of the first floor vestibule.

Second floor:
This level contains the terrace bedroom, which has been designed in the Berber style. Its two single beds can be combined to make a double bed.


Outdoors​ 

On the ground floor, guests will appreciate the 100 sqm patio bordered by 3 galleries. The patio has kept its classic quadripartite configuration of Islamic gardens with a fountain and 4 squares on which two palm trees have grown (one of which is 8 meters tall), numerous cacti, and a fig tree. 
Under the first gallery is a small living room (a bench, a coffee table and a designer armchair).
Under the second one is the outdoor dining room (capacity 10 to 12 people).
The third gallery offers a large seating area with coffee tables and armchairs.
The first floor is highlighted by two more facing galleries.
On the second floor, guests can enjoy a large terrace with sunbathing area, outdoor shower and a small protected lounge. The oculus of the Douria on the first floor is covered by a glass and metal structure with openings, visible on the terrace.


Staff & Services

A steward (who is also a night watchman, stays at the riad), a cook and a maid are attached to the riad. 


Location

Riad Zina is located in the popular Riad Laarouss area.
It is close to a taxi drop-off point, the Dar El Bacha Museum, one of the royal palaces and one of the entrances to the souks where there are many restaurants, such as the "Terrasse des épices" or the "Nomad". It is also only a 10-minute walk from Jemaa El Fna Square.


Note : The riad is not particularly suitable for young children.
